Adventure Details:
Join Friends of Nike Site Summit for a guided hiking tour of the Cold War structures of Kincaid Park, once home to barbed wire fences, nuclear missiles, and fierce guard dogs. Formerly known as the Point Campbell Military Reservation/Nike Site Point, the vast tract of land is now home to ski trails, archery ranges, and soccer fields. Veterans who served at Site Point during the Cold War will be on hand to discuss their personal experiences and participants will enter two historic structures associated with the missile site and view the remnants of several more. The hike is conducted in partnership with the Municipality of Anchorage.
Tickets are $25: GET TICKETS
The tour will cover about 2.75 miles on dirt and paved trails over hilly terrain, with numerous ups and downs. Brief sections of the tour will cross open, uneven terrain. Participants should plan on spending up to three hours on the tour and come with water, snacks and attire for all weather possibilities. Participants must be 10 years of age or older. Due to potential liability, we ask that you please leave your pets at home.
Questions can be directed to fonss2007@gmail.com or to FONSS’ 501(c)3 partner, Preservation Alaska, at (907) 929-9870.
The tour is capped at 25 participants; on-site registration will only be available if that number is not reached by May 18. Call or email before attempting to register at Kincaid the day of the hike.
